The last wedding of the summer…

I tossed out a pre-view image a month or so ago for this and although the couple is still trying to decide how to have their order fulfilled, I wanted to get it out for the rest of you to see….

The day started on Camano Island…  I loved the sign on the fridge, that was the mood the entire day.

Hundreds of paper lanterns on twinkle lights, strung up in the back yard…  The reception had lots of promise!

Then down to Seattle, Greenlake specifically.  She chose Illustrated Salon Spa for her hair.  Mandy Greenhill did a great job!

Then for some more pampering, Jessica at Spa Scotta did her makeup, lots of goodies to look at!

Then back to their house to grab some important items, and people, and heat to the Temple in Bellevue

Thanks to the Blue Angles, there was a bit of a rush to get across the bridge.  The grounds of the Temple in Bellevue are beautiful.  As were the people.

I love babies at weddings, don’t you?

Even an accidental blow to the head resulted in laughter.

Back to Camano, and a little log cabin down the road from the reception.

Sparklers, fireworks and to top off the evening, ‘wish’ lanterns (ala the Disney film ‘Rapunzel’)

What a wonderful day!

Beautiful Stanwood Wedding.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to describe the wedding I had the honor of documenting last month at Warm Beach Free Methodist Church.  It’s been hard I think because it was so stunning.  It wasn’t the venue, or the decor, or any of the other things that we wedding photographers get pulled toward when we think of a memorable wedding.  It was the people, the relationships and the story.  I don’t really know much of the last item, but from the emotion and love in the room, it must be something.  Standing in the back, listening to the message, it seemed like the pastor was speaking to everyone in the room, like family.  And that’s what this was.  The forging of a family…  But I should let the photos do the talking…

Like I said.  Nothing like a new family!

La Conner Wedding…

Rob and Rebecca had the kind of wedding I wish I could shoot every day.  Not that I only like shooting small intimate weddings.  Nor that I only like shooting weddings in small quaint towns.  Or when the weather is beautiful, and the venue is so full wonderful, or any of the other obvious details of their special day.  What I really loved about documenting their special day were the people.  It was clear that they people who had come were all very special to the couple. The other cool thing? Most everyone ignored me after the family photos. Loved that. Able to wander and shoot, looking for some of the better angles for backgrounds, stories, characters and moments…. Here are some of my favorites:

The Father of the Bride. He was so proud of his daughter, I don’t think he was actually walking on the floor.

La Conner Wedding Pre-view

It’s been busy, really.  Really.  Busy.  And fun!  There have been so many fun times since I fell off the blog wagon.  I don’t want to spoil anything, but here’s a little something from a wedding I had the honor of shooting in La Conner recently.  Much more to come once I get the A-OK from the bride, and I think when you see the photographs, you will love the family as much as I did by the time the wedding was wrapped!

Les & Makesha’s Stanwood open air wedding!

What a absolutely perfect day!  The weather cooperated (and there was fear in my heart that it would not, oh yes!) in a wonderful blue sky, warm, sunny, spring is coming kind of way.  Les and Makesha picked a wonderfully convenient location, in an open field, with distant tree line and a warm breeze!  There was some great rustic “dwelling” in the background that gave some wonderful texture and interest to some of the group shots…

Makesha is a local Zumba instructor, don’t know what that is?  Well check her site out here: (I shot her benefit event a while back too, it’s here)  What did that mean for the dancing?  Lots of it!  With some great beats!  Good times!  I was a bit nervous about this wedding as Les is a photographer as well, He just had finished some work for NOAH (a local animal rescue) and has the images up on his site here: Really it worked out great!  Knowing a little bit about what I would be dealing with (bright light, no shade, mid afternoon) Les picked the location allowing me to keep my back to the sun for the most part, and the background was awesome, smooth grass into the trees.

Hair was got all styled up by Shelly Anderson with Salon Capelli, in Marysville.  You can catch her at 425-239-1217

Makesha’s makup was done by Tina Panich, she is a guru and super fun to have around getting all ready! Here site is going together as we speak, so for how you can reach her at fourtwofive-422-0690 and e-mail

The Cake was uber yummy!  Jessica did an awesome job!  The cake tasted as good as it looked.  You can see more of her cakes and reach her through her site at

The music was hot even after the couple drove off into the sunset, you can reach the DJ’s via e-mail and by phone fourtwofive-359-9450

All in all it was a wild success, here are a few of my favorites…

::First dance::

Les and Makesha were were really sweet at the cake cutting, the second helping (after some dancing) was a little more mischievous!

(note the cake “facial” in the last shot)

Off into the sunset!

Wedding Pre-View!

We had the honor of shooting Les and Makesha’s wedding this last weekend and could not have planned a better day!  The weather was beautiful, and fit so wonderfully with the venue.  There is much more to follow but I wanted to get something up so you would all know that I had not fallen asleep!

Lining up for the big walk!

Chris & Krista!

Where do I start? I had the privilege a couple of weeks ago of spending the day with Chris and Krista. I don’t think I have ever met a more calm, collected bride. She had it all together, and this is one wedding that flies in the face of my standard “at least one thing will go wrong”. I showed up at Magnolia Hall just as they were getting ready for the rehearsal. That gave me a chance to wonder around a little and catch a few fun little moments as they were getting things sorted out. After that, I hopped into the car with Krista and headed over to get get her hair done. “It’s a Hair Thing” in downtown Stanwood is exactly the kind of place every bustling little town needs. With three or four chairs and a handful of stylists, both Chris and Krista got all styled up for the wedding.  Back to the house for some last minute prep, and then back to the hall for the group photos.  Oh and the ceremony.

I was continually impressed by Krista.  As we drove around all morning, she would wave people in front of her.  On one of the biggest days of her life, she was in no rush.  It was incredible.  I think in the e-session wright up I probably went on and on about how well Chris and Krista seemed to know each other, how much they loved each other, and you could see the fun they have together.  This by far has been one of the best weddings I’ve been to in a long time.  Here are a few of my favorite shots…  I’ll put up some shots of the bride book once it’s published…

This was a mid-series shot of a “give me a Charlies Angels” look.  Just after this they all busted up laughing.

The cake was by far the best I have ever had, no kidding!   Dana at Cake Keep Sakes did an incredible job!  She totally took care of the bride with a custom cake (I heard each layer was different).  She has a great site with lots of great cake ideas.  Really if we need a custom cake, she will be getting a call!  I had not had the chance to meet a local cake vendor that I would recommend, and she is sure to get a listing in my soon to come “local bridal resources” page!

I love the dreamy look of this image, with the slow shutter her dress looks like cotton candy.  Just before guests started arriving Krista slipped downstairs to wait..

I though Krista had some real flair in the bouquet toss!  Look at that perfect form!

Here they are taking their first spin around the floor.  This was just the beginning.  They made a point of hiring a killer DJ, and they worked the floor!

Chris Graves with Your Song DJ was incredible!  He kept the dinner and then reception flowing smoothly.  He was also super easy to work with from my point of view.  I must admit I am a bit jealous, I wish Krista had been as excited to see me as she was to see Chris Graves!  I am looking forward to working with him again!

It worked so well last time as a closing shot I figured I’d use it again, I just love the way it looks like Chris is supporting Krista.

Site update! Price list!

So I have long last updated my site! Check it out here:  In truth it didn’t take as long as I thought it would.  It helped that I’ve been thinking about it for about three months.  The price list is there now.  Just click on the “price list” link under the banner.  I still have a little more tweaking to do, but most of that will probably go un-noticed.  Except for the “portfolio” section I plan on adding. And because every post is better with a photo:
Perfect day for a Wedding!

Business Cards!

This is kind of funny and ironic all at the same time.  Let’s see if you can follow this.  I wanted a phone number for the studio, and after talking to a very web 2.0 friend of mine decided to use Google Voice.  It’s a wicked service (what of Google’s services aren’t?) and it free!  The catch, you have to request an invitation to join.  What does that mean?  You ask for an application, and they eventually send you a link to sign up.  And that can take some time.  For some areas it’s a moth or more.  So I requested the invite, and waited, and waited….  Meanwhile back at the ranch, I finally put the last bit of polish on a new business card design!  My old hand printed & cut cards were OK at best.  I wanted color! photos! and more!  So there I was with this wonderful new business card and the only thing missing was the phone number from Google….  I am not the most patient person and finally ordered a small run of the cards.  And they arrived and I was happy.  And 36 hrs after they showed up, I got the invite from Google….  URG!!  So I have some lovely business cards with no phone number, but then my last cards didn’t have a number on them either.

And what is the point of this you ask?  A few days ago David duChemin dropped in with this killer offering.  Check it out HERE.  So today my photo (seen below) goes onto my stream on flickr (not a big fan of flickr but I won’t get into it here) and the post I was planning on doing anyhow (the toot toot look at my new cards!) is more than shameless self promotion!  And in the spirit of the American Do It Yourselfers I have my phone number written on a napkin.  So it’s there too.  And if you are curious 474-7427 spells 474-pics.  Cool huh?

Front, Back and my digits!

Have a fun day!

Engagement Session-

Krista & Chris go back a long way.  They both went to the same high school, and have known each other for ever (sounds familiar).  I had the privileged of shooting their engagement session last weekend, and got to know them a little better.  It is always fun to see a couple get comfortable with each other, and it sure showed with these two!  They were super easy to shoot, and there interactions were priceless.  I really liked how Chris kept looking at Krista, you could tell he is smitten!  Here are some of the shots from the engagement session from last weekend.  We started around 7pm and the light just got better and better! Most of these are from the end of the session…

I love the glow here.

And their hands (I love people’s hands, I think they can tell a person’s story.)

One more of the couple-

And my favorite of the evening….  I don’t think I need to point out the look on Krista’s face…  Love it!

I can’t wait till their wedding this fall!  Thanks for letting me be a part of it!

Wedding re-visited…

I finally delivered the images from a wedding a month or so ago to the incredible couple.  They were great, knowing that their wedding was shortly before the birth of our daughter, they told me that I could get to the images “when ever”…  What a blessing!  I was able to spend lots of time bonding with my second daughter, and am very grateful for their patience.  But on the wedding images, if you remember from the engagement session here, or the wedding pre-view here, this was a very fun couple to work with.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

Here’s the man of the hour!  A little “cross processing” really made the vest pop!

Yummy Cake!

The flowers smelled great!

Here is one of my favorites from the service.  I wonder what her little sister is thinking.

And finally, my favorite shot of the day!

I love her smile in this one, what a bride!!

Again, thanks for letting me be a part of you day!  I had a wonderful time, you both have fun families and I enjoyed spending the day with all of them!  I have also enjoyed bumping into you as a married couple!  I am sure I’ll be seeing you around more!.

One side note, there was a “fun” little prank played on the get away truck, lifted just enough so the back tires didn’t touch the ground……

they eventually got away, but I would like to mention that it’s always safest to have married guys do the pranking…  Paybacks can be killer.

Osborn Wedding

What a great couple! It just goes to show you that it’s never too late to jump into marriage! This was a lot of fun to shoot, on the lake, late afternoon and into the evening, the light just got better and better. Here are some of my favorite captures of the evening. The photos are a little rough as I have not done any editing yet
