The last wedding of the summer…

I tossed out a pre-view image a month or so ago for this and although the couple is still trying to decide how to have their order fulfilled, I wanted to get it out for the rest of you to see….

The day started on Camano Island…  I loved the sign on the fridge, that was the mood the entire day.

Hundreds of paper lanterns on twinkle lights, strung up in the back yard…  The reception had lots of promise!

Then down to Seattle, Greenlake specifically.  She chose Illustrated Salon Spa for her hair.  Mandy Greenhill did a great job!

Then for some more pampering, Jessica at Spa Scotta did her makeup, lots of goodies to look at!

Then back to their house to grab some important items, and people, and heat to the Temple in Bellevue

Thanks to the Blue Angles, there was a bit of a rush to get across the bridge.  The grounds of the Temple in Bellevue are beautiful.  As were the people.

I love babies at weddings, don’t you?

Even an accidental blow to the head resulted in laughter.

Back to Camano, and a little log cabin down the road from the reception.

Sparklers, fireworks and to top off the evening, ‘wish’ lanterns (ala the Disney film ‘Rapunzel’)

What a wonderful day!

Wedding Pre-view….

With way more to come.  From Camano Island, to Green lake Seattle, to the LDS Temple in Bellevue, and back to Camano…  It was an awesome chance to tell an entire wedding day story.  Here is a tiny little peak, on the island, in the morning.  They aren’t even set up completely yet….

Beautiful Stanwood Wedding.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to describe the wedding I had the honor of documenting last month at Warm Beach Free Methodist Church.  It’s been hard I think because it was so stunning.  It wasn’t the venue, or the decor, or any of the other things that we wedding photographers get pulled toward when we think of a memorable wedding.  It was the people, the relationships and the story.  I don’t really know much of the last item, but from the emotion and love in the room, it must be something.  Standing in the back, listening to the message, it seemed like the pastor was speaking to everyone in the room, like family.  And that’s what this was.  The forging of a family…  But I should let the photos do the talking…

Like I said.  Nothing like a new family!

A beautiful, happy, smiling Stanwood Wedding…

Smile.  I probably said it a bunch out of habit, but it was more to get folks to look at the camera, they were already smiling.  Julie and Nathan were married on October 2nd, in a day that was picture perfect!  We had some wonderful clouds for the group photos outside, and then during the ceremony, the clouds broke up and blessed us with some beautiful bright sun, blue sky and white puffy clouds.  And smiles.  The entire day was full of people who were happy to be right where they were.  The friends and family that came around Julie and Nathan to support and be a part of their day were fantastic!

I know I was smiling too, Julie is one of those wonderful brides who is laid back, easy going, and knows not to sweat the small stuff.  Not that there was any “small stuff” to sweat.  I think the biggest “issue” was the tux for the ring bearer.  But I don’t know many kids his age who think to tuck in a dress shirt.  Oh, but there was that little ring issue….  But I’ll let Julie tell that story, cause she does a much better job!

Here are some of my favorite shots…  And yes, I was able to have Joscelyn with me again as a 2nd shooter and assistant (score!).

The flower girls were a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e.

One of my favorite shots of the day.  Not sure why I keep coming back to it but I do..

Edit: This post is way overdue. In fact I should feel shame faced. I am. My apologies for this, and as the next few posts come out you will get a chance to see where I have been and where I am going. Hang in there, and have faith. You are getting the view from the back seat. I’m duck taped to the front bumper.

La Conner Wedding…

Rob and Rebecca had the kind of wedding I wish I could shoot every day.  Not that I only like shooting small intimate weddings.  Nor that I only like shooting weddings in small quaint towns.  Or when the weather is beautiful, and the venue is so full wonderful, or any of the other obvious details of their special day.  What I really loved about documenting their special day were the people.  It was clear that they people who had come were all very special to the couple. The other cool thing? Most everyone ignored me after the family photos. Loved that. Able to wander and shoot, looking for some of the better angles for backgrounds, stories, characters and moments…. Here are some of my favorites:

The Father of the Bride. He was so proud of his daughter, I don’t think he was actually walking on the floor.

La Conner Wedding Pre-view

It’s been busy, really.  Really.  Busy.  And fun!  There have been so many fun times since I fell off the blog wagon.  I don’t want to spoil anything, but here’s a little something from a wedding I had the honor of shooting in La Conner recently.  Much more to come once I get the A-OK from the bride, and I think when you see the photographs, you will love the family as much as I did by the time the wedding was wrapped!

Les & Makesha’s Stanwood open air wedding!

What a absolutely perfect day!  The weather cooperated (and there was fear in my heart that it would not, oh yes!) in a wonderful blue sky, warm, sunny, spring is coming kind of way.  Les and Makesha picked a wonderfully convenient location, in an open field, with distant tree line and a warm breeze!  There was some great rustic “dwelling” in the background that gave some wonderful texture and interest to some of the group shots…

Makesha is a local Zumba instructor, don’t know what that is?  Well check her site out here:  www.zumbalocamama.com (I shot her benefit event a while back too, it’s here)  What did that mean for the dancing?  Lots of it!  With some great beats!  Good times!  I was a bit nervous about this wedding as Les is a photographer as well, He just had finished some work for NOAH (a local animal rescue) and has the images up on his site here: www.naturalinkphotography.com Really it worked out great!  Knowing a little bit about what I would be dealing with (bright light, no shade, mid afternoon) Les picked the location allowing me to keep my back to the sun for the most part, and the background was awesome, smooth grass into the trees.

Hair was got all styled up by Shelly Anderson with Salon Capelli, in Marysville.  You can catch her at 425-239-1217

Makesha’s makup was done by Tina Panich, she is a guru and super fun to have around getting all ready! Here site is going together as we speak, so for how you can reach her at fourtwofive-422-0690 and e-mail tkpanich@hotmail.com

The Cake was uber yummy!  Jessica did an awesome job!  The cake tasted as good as it looked.  You can see more of her cakes and reach her through her site at www.simplycaketastic.com

The music was hot even after the couple drove off into the sunset, you can reach the DJ’s via e-mail rocknkris@yahoo.com and by phone fourtwofive-359-9450

All in all it was a wild success, here are a few of my favorites…

::First dance::

Les and Makesha were were really sweet at the cake cutting, the second helping (after some dancing) was a little more mischievous!

(note the cake “facial” in the last shot)

Off into the sunset!

We had the honor of shooting Les and Makesha’s wedding this last weekend and could not have planned a better day!  The weather was beautiful, and fit so wonderfully with the venue.  There is much more to follow but I wanted to get something up so you would all know that I had not fallen asleep!

Lining up for the big walk!

Valentines Day Special! (or Wedding Photography Special till Valentines day)….

I hinted at this a few weeks ago.  This is my first shot at some kind of “special” so we’ll see how it goes..  Here’s the deal!  From now, till Midnight on the 14th if you book a package with me that includes an engagement session I will include a basic guest sign in album for free (images from the engagement session, a $150 value).  I am also running a discount on my wedding packages, but you’ll need to contact me to find out more details on that!

Please feel free to call me at 360-474-7427 or e-mail me.  Adam@photobby.com

I can hear you now… What about the brides you have already booked?  Never fear, they got the same great deal!  But I am sure they appreciate your concern.  I know, some of you might not be able to squeeze in a meeting in the next few weeks, as long as you have contacted me and have a consult scheduled, I will be able to extend this offer.

“In the frame”, weddings, and babies

Sorry to leave all two of you hanging here for a bit.  Not much original content lately eh?  Never fear.  After the hurried pace of the holidays, things slowed down a bit for us.  For various reasons we are not going to make it to any of the Bridal Events this spring (next year?) but would love to hear how they go…  Instead I’ve been working on a couple of personal projects.  The first is going to be called “in the frame” and now that I have several of the shoots “in the can” I feel comfortable doing a little pre-view.

The premise is simple.   Meet someone for coffee and take a few informal photos.  The “in the frame” bit?  Well my life is “framed” by the people who I interact with.  Some of them have had a very deep or long lasting impact on my, shaped who I am or fed my odd sense of humor.  So those are the folks you’ll see.  Who exactly?  Well you’ll just have to tune back in from time to time to find out.

Finally the weddings!  I’ll be firing up a special here in the next few days, and again, tune in for more info!!

Till then- have a wonderful weekend!

Chris & Krista!

Where do I start? I had the privilege a couple of weeks ago of spending the day with Chris and Krista. I don’t think I have ever met a more calm, collected bride. She had it all together, and this is one wedding that flies in the face of my standard “at least one thing will go wrong”. I showed up at Magnolia Hall just as they were getting ready for the rehearsal. That gave me a chance to wonder around a little and catch a few fun little moments as they were getting things sorted out. After that, I hopped into the car with Krista and headed over to get get her hair done. “It’s a Hair Thing” in downtown Stanwood is exactly the kind of place every bustling little town needs. With three or four chairs and a handful of stylists, both Chris and Krista got all styled up for the wedding.  Back to the house for some last minute prep, and then back to the hall for the group photos.  Oh and the ceremony.

I was continually impressed by Krista.  As we drove around all morning, she would wave people in front of her.  On one of the biggest days of her life, she was in no rush.  It was incredible.  I think in the e-session wright up I probably went on and on about how well Chris and Krista seemed to know each other, how much they loved each other, and you could see the fun they have together.  This by far has been one of the best weddings I’ve been to in a long time.  Here are a few of my favorite shots…  I’ll put up some shots of the bride book once it’s published…

This was a mid-series shot of a “give me a Charlies Angels” look.  Just after this they all busted up laughing.

The cake was by far the best I have ever had, no kidding!   Dana at Cake Keep Sakes did an incredible job!  She totally took care of the bride with a custom cake (I heard each layer was different).  She has a great site with lots of great cake ideas.  Really if we need a custom cake, she will be getting a call!  I had not had the chance to meet a local cake vendor that I would recommend, and she is sure to get a listing in my soon to come “local bridal resources” page!

I love the dreamy look of this image, with the slow shutter her dress looks like cotton candy.  Just before guests started arriving Krista slipped downstairs to wait..

I though Krista had some real flair in the bouquet toss!  Look at that perfect form!

Here they are taking their first spin around the floor.  This was just the beginning.  They made a point of hiring a killer DJ, and they worked the floor!

Chris Graves with Your Song DJ was incredible!  He kept the dinner and then reception flowing smoothly.  He was also super easy to work with from my point of view.  I must admit I am a bit jealous, I wish Krista had been as excited to see me as she was to see Chris Graves!  I am looking forward to working with him again!

It worked so well last time as a closing shot I figured I’d use it again, I just love the way it looks like Chris is supporting Krista.

Site update! Price list!

So I have long last updated my site! Check it out here: www.photobby.com.  In truth it didn’t take as long as I thought it would.  It helped that I’ve been thinking about it for about three months.  The price list is there now.  Just click on the “price list” link under the banner.  I still have a little more tweaking to do, but most of that will probably go un-noticed.  Except for the “portfolio” section I plan on adding. And because every post is better with a photo:
Perfect day for a Wedding!

PRICING!!

So I am not there yet. I’m getting close on my updated print and event pricing for 2010. I was hoping to have it live before now but again… I’ve had a lot on my plate. For now if you are wanting to book a wedding in 2010, please contact me now. I am only taking a very few (like 5) weddings in 2010, just kidding.  Seriously though the summer is filling up!  I am working on packages that will include DVD slide shows with music, Bride Books, Canvas prints, and on line mini slide shows with music (done completely by me, not some third party ie Animoto) they will be sync-able with your I-pod too, so you can show it off to your friends.  I’ll have the pricing link back up here once I have that dialed in…

Wedding re-visited…

I finally delivered the images from a wedding a month or so ago to the incredible couple.  They were great, knowing that their wedding was shortly before the birth of our daughter, they told me that I could get to the images “when ever”…  What a blessing!  I was able to spend lots of time bonding with my second daughter, and am very grateful for their patience.  But on the wedding images, if you remember from the engagement session here, or the wedding pre-view here, this was a very fun couple to work with.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

Here’s the man of the hour!  A little “cross processing” really made the vest pop!

Yummy Cake!

The flowers smelled great!

Here is one of my favorites from the service.  I wonder what her little sister is thinking.

And finally, my favorite shot of the day!

I love her smile in this one, what a bride!!

Again, thanks for letting me be a part of you day!  I had a wonderful time, you both have fun families and I enjoyed spending the day with all of them!  I have also enjoyed bumping into you as a married couple!  I am sure I’ll be seeing you around more!.

One side note, there was a “fun” little prank played on the get away truck, lifted just enough so the back tires didn’t touch the ground……

they eventually got away, but I would like to mention that it’s always safest to have married guys do the pranking…  Paybacks can be killer.

Wedding Pre-View

I had the honor of getting to shoot this couples’ engagement session, rehearsal and wedding! They were about as easy going as you can imagine; a real dream to work with. We talked back when I shot their engagement session about the fact that I (well my wife really) was expecting a baby shortly after their wedding, and with getting ready for the baby it might take a while to get the images sorted & edited. It’s taken me two weeks to get a first look put together. Hopefully the rest will go faster! All I am showing are some shots from the rehearsal and pre-ceremony. I’ll post more later, after the couple has gotten their prints. But for now, here you go!

Everyone had a great sense of humor at the rehearsal.

It’s only a matter of time till they have one of there own!

They were either holding hands or arm in arm, the entire rehearsal.

The groom helps his future brother in law with the neck tie,

The bride & her little sister got prepped….

Little sister was all giggles

Every window had one of these in it… Beautiful!

My favorite pre-ceremony shot (so far)…..

Mark & Jenna’s Wedding Shower!

What a great couple!  It was so fun to see all the people come out to wish this couple well.  Mark & Jenna are teachers from New York, Jenna grew up in the area and her mom still lives here and wanted to do a shower for some of the folks in the area who know her.  It was so neat to see a young couple who are so excited to be starting their life together!

There were some fun games, we all got to see them both squirm over some fun questions.   They both laugh so easily, and have great senses of humor!  They are both very real people (and I must admit that I have a soft spot for teachers!)  Here are some of my favorite shots from their wedding shower….

I loved the colors of the cards!

Some tense moments during the “grilling”

Jenna’s grandma made this wonderful quilt for their new home.  What an incredible gift!

Here are her mother (furthest) and grandmother (brown shirt & above) who helped put the shower together

Jenna & Mark are a fun couple, very real.  I just wish they lived in the area,

it would be fun to get to know them better!

I like these two also.  Kind of a before & after-

Wish I was able to be a the wedding!

Thanks for letting me be part of your shower!

Isaac & Theresa are getting married!

Filed under: Engagement, Wedding — photobby @ 5:25 pm

I had the opportunity to meet Isaac and Theresa at the end of the month.  I had heard about them again and again from friends and family and they contacted me a few weeks ago to talk about shooting their wedding in March!  I met with them and we went over what I offer in wedding photography, showed them some of the recent weddings I have had an opportunity to shoot and left it up to them.  I was thrilled when they called me a few days later to set up an engagement session and firm up some of the details.

Here are some of my favorites from our shoot.  We met up at Kayak Point, and walked around looking for some places with some fall color.  It was windy and a little early for the wonderful soft light that we get in the later evenings.

Like I said, it was windy.  I probably have as many shots with Theresa’s hair in her face is not!

Here they are all cuddled up.  Isaac did his best to keep Theresa warm but that wind off the sound was cutting!

We went looking for some fall color, and we found a little.  But some of these are my favorites are these-

And this one, with them “looking off into the future”

And this one, a little closer, is probably my favorite!

And finally, just to show that they do know how to have fun.  After all, we are all kids at heart!

I can not wait till March!  I look forward to sharing their special day with them, and watching them on their first day of the rest of their lives!

-Adam

Edit:  Here is one more that Theresa said she really liked.  I do to!  I believe this is the trail that the hiked down and then back up after their “DTR'” (Defining The Relationship) talk that they said made Kayak Point so special to them.  The bench shot above I believe was “the bench” that they sat on during their talk.  I think it is so cool to be able to point to a specific place where you had or shared a watershed moment.  Special too to be able to visit it with a couple and capture some special moments there!  Thanks again guys!

Chris & Tausha’s Wedding!!

Filed under: Wedding — photobby @ 6:10 pm

I had such a great time shooting Chris & Tausha’s wedding a few weeks ago.  What a day!  The service was held at Warm Beach Free Methodist Church in Stanwood Washington, and the weather could not have been better!  They had one of the largest bridal parties I have seen and you could tell that each person was special to them!  Thanks to the sun we were able to shoot all the portraits outside, my theory is still holding up that the better shots come after the ceremony.  Here are some of the getting ready shots- oh and some of these shots are my attempt at more of a “cross processed” look.  I couldn’t wait to see what I could do, Tausha picked bright green and pink for her colors (I am sure they have real names like mauve but I am a guy… so there you go) and I figured they would really snap with a push, so I kept pushing.  Probably a bit too much but I like it.  I also have some B&W that I will try to get up in the next few days.

The cutest flower girl and ring bearer I have seen in a long time!

Here is one of the bride and ring bearer – I can see a princess in the making (even in her pink converse!)

The lighting in the church is terrible, even with a flash!  I was however able to come up with some fun shots.

This one is probably one of my favorites of the day, that’s Ed McDowell in front, he married Chris (next in line) and Tausha in a quick and very personal service (no snickering, you know what I mean!).  Ed had “I told people no tot be late, or they would miss the service” he was not kidding!  I hardly had time to squeeze off a couple dozen shots when they were smoochin’ and grinnin!

After the service was cake, candy and some quick semi-posed shots.  Still proving that everyone is more relaxed and willing to get a little wild, and “dirty” after the service!

This is what the kids looked like after a trip through the treat table!

Here is one of my other favs, a definitely easier to coax after the ceremony.

And three more,

No the dress is not rented, yes his tux was!

Thanks for looking, I can’t wait to see what the bride thinks of the other shots, esp. the ones I didn’t post!

This was a lot of fun to shoot, on the lake, late afternoon and into the evening, the light just got better and better. Here are some of my favorite captures of the evening. What a wonderful day and a truly wonderful couple! Jeremiah and Angela are the cutest couple! I had an absolute blast as the second shooter for Kristin Aasen her site is here, she was a blast to work with and I hope to be able to return the favor in the future! The venue was wonderful with more perfect little “frames” than there was time to explore. I had a blast shooting candid and details of the day. Here are a few quick frames….
